Basketball Game Preview: Sutton Mustangs vs. Centura Centurions

The Sutton Mustangs will challenge the Centura Centurions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Sutton comes in on eight and Centura on four.

Last Friday, Sutton strolled past McCool Junction with points to spare, taking the game 68-54.

Sutton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Payton Reed out in front who posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Jones, who scored 15 points.

Meanwhile, Centura rang in the new year with a 43-35 victory over Sandy Creek on Saturday. The matchup marked the Centurions' most dominant win of the season so far.

Sutton pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for Centura, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Sutton was able to grind out a solid win over Centura in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, winning 51-41. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Centura's Barrett Fries, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds.
