Baseball Game Preview: Naperville North Huskies vs. Glenbard East Rams

The Naperville North Huskies will head out on the road to face off against the Glenbard East Rams at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last four games Naperville North has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Naperville North hadn't beaten Waubonsie Valley on the road since May 11, 2023 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Huskies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Warriors. That's two games straight that the Huskies have won by just one run.

Matt Sonnenschein spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Naperville North's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brady Marino, who went 2-for-3 with one run. That's the most hits Marino has posted since back in April.

Meanwhile, Glenbard East waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Maroons a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Rams have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Glenbard East's victory bumped their record up to 17-8. As for Naperville North, the win got them back to even at 12-12.

Naperville North skirted past Glenbard East 7-6 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
