Baseball Recap: Coleville Takes a Loss

Coleville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Virginia City Muckers, falling 14-4. That's two games in a row now that the Wolves have lost by exactly ten runs.

JAY SWAN put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season.

In other batting news, GAVIN PALADINO made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (three). Andrew Watson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Coleville's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Virginia City, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coleville will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Excel Christian at 3:00 p.m. on April 8. Coleville will need to watch out since Excel Christian has now posted at least ten runs in their last five matches. As for Virginia City, they will face off against Portola at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
