Recap: Elko Indians vs. Dayton Dust Devils
The Elko Indians scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They walked away with a 65-55 victory over Dayton. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Elko as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.
Elko can attribute much of their success to Raquel Madigan, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. That's the first time this season that Madigan scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Shaylen Garity, who scored 13 points.
Dayton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayisha Agee, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Agee hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Kennidi Smith was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three blocks.
Even though they lost, Dayton were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Elko's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-8. As for Dayton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.
Elko and Spring Creek will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Spring Creek is ranked 57th, while Elko is ranked 48th). As for Dayton, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Lowry at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Lowry is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
