Softball Recap: Richwood Lumberjacks vs. Oak Hill Red Devils
Richwood had lost 13 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-10 to make it 14. They lost 17-2 to the Oak Hill Red Devils. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 back in March.
As for Oak Hill, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The result was nothing new for Oak Hill, who have now won seven games by eight runs or more so far this season.
For Oak Hill's part, Mary Butcher made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Butcher has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Oak Hill got a massive performance out of Sadie Branch, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Branch continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Peyten Farrell was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
Coming up, Richwood will challenge Greenbrier West at 5:30 p.m. on May 1. As for Oak Hill, they will take on Woodrow Wilson at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
