Recap: Cranston East Thunderbolts vs. Chariho Chargers
If the Cranston East Thunderbolts were riding high off their 64-32 takedown of the Woonsocket Villa Novans last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cranston East was dealt a 69-39 loss at the hands of Chariho on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Cranston East can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Chariho is ranked fourth).
When it comes to explaining why Cranston East lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mya Jiminez. Despite the final result, she scored 27 points. That was a full 69.2% of Cranston East's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Cranston East has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Chariho, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3.
Cranston East will take on Cumberland at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cumberland is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Chariho, they will head out on the road to take on Mt. Pleasant at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Mt. Pleasant comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
