Preview: Ocean City Raiders vs. Mainland Regional Mustangs
Ocean City is 2-8 against Mainland Regional since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Sunday. The Ocean City Raiders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mainland Regional Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. Ocean City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 164th, while Mainland Regional is ranked third).
Ocean City's 24-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell to Middle Township 37-31. Ocean City has not had much luck with Middle Township recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Brielle Smith, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was McKenna Chisholm, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Mainland Regional put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Holy Spirit 63-42. Mainland Regional has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 21 points or more this season.
Ocean City has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Mainland Regional, they pushed their record up to 16-0 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home.
Ocean City might still be hurting after the 60-34 loss they got from Mainland Regional when the teams last played on January 5th. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Ocean City was down 41-11.
