Baseball Game Preview: Wilmington Wildcats vs. Coal City Coalers

For the second straight game, Wilmington will face off against Coal City. The Wildcats will welcome the Coalers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wilmington's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Coal City's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Wilmington's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Coal City with a sharp 9-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Kyle Farrell was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Drew Jackson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI.

Wilmington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coal City only posted an OBP of .179.

Wilmington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Coal City, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 14-4.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Wilmington hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Coal City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
