Softball Recap: Rossville's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Rossville had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Western Boone Stars on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won 17 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Avery Layton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brielle Layton, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Caydence Robey, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Rossville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western Boone struck out 16 times.

The win (which was Rossville's eighth in a row) raised their record to 21-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Western Boone, they moved to 20-6 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

As of now, neither Rossville nor the Stars have any future games scheduled.
