Basketball Recap: Starkville Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Starkville hadn't done well against Germantown recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Starkville Yellowjackets snuck past the Germantown Mavericks with a 30-24 win. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Mavericks are ranked 42nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Germantown lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Charlie Gamberine, who posted ten points. That was a full 41.7% of Germantown's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Glasgow, who scored five points and eight rebounds.
