5A West recap Sept. 26, 2012
Morrilton was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 5A West. The Devil Dogs vanquished Shiloh Christian 52-14 earlier in the week.
Alma was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Clarksville 35-7. The Airedales came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 33 last week.
Greenbrier's dynamic duo of Seth Peters and Austin Fischer proved tough for Huntsville to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Peters threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns and Fischer had 125 yards receiving. Garrett Johnson helped Greenbrier's passing attack out by catching three balls for 53 yards.
Kevin Reynolds made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Panthers topped the Eagles. The 6-foot-1 junior grabbed one interception and forced one fumble.
D'aundra Cain was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 108 yards on 22 carries as the Panthers defeated Huntsville. Brandon Lovell also contributed to the rushing game with five yards on the ground.
The Saints' Casey Paraday and Ryan Michaelis have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Paraday has thrown for 922 yards this season, while Michaelis, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 29 catches for 524 yards. Fischer from Randy Tribble's team leads the league in rushing with 290 yards.
Two of the top units in 5A West will face off this week when the Panthers take on Harrison. Greenbrier's offense has racked up 148 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Goblins have allowed only 174 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Alma takes on Morrilton. Todd Dilbeck's team is currently in third, while Cody McNabb's team is in fourth.
The Devil Dogs led the league in scoring this week after putting up 52 points on Shiloh Christian.
