Basketball Recap: Caden Shaw Key Part of a Team Effort in Red Devils Win

There's no place like home for Decatur Community, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Northern Valley Huskies on Tuesday as the Decatur Community Red Devils made off with a 71-49 victory. With that win, the Red Devils brought their scoring average up to 50.9 points per game.

Decatur Community's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caden Shaw, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance gave Shaw a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Ostmeyer, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 14 points and eight rebounds.

Decatur Community was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northern Valley only racked up four assists.

Despite the loss, Northern Valley saw an underclassman step up: freshman Tait Thalheim posted 29 points and three steals. Those 29 points set a new season-high mark for Thalheim. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Hammond, who scored 18 points and eight boards.

Decatur Community now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Northern Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Decatur Community will head out to face off against Hoxie at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Decatur Community is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season. As for Northern Valley, they will welcome Wheatland-Grinnell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Northern Valley is facing Wheatland-Grinnell at the right time seeing as Wheatland-Grinnell is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
