Preview: Cherry Creek Bruins vs. Columbine Rebels
The Cherry Creek Bruins will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Columbine Rebels at 3:00 p.m. on December 2nd. The pair have allowed few points on average, (Cherry Creek: 11.5, Columbine: 10) so any points scored will be well earned.
With a playoff game on the line, Cherry Creek rose to the challenge on Saturday. They walked away with a 21-14 victory over the Mustangs. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Cherry Creek was the (much) better team in the second half.
Cherry Creek got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jordan Herron out in front who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Cherry Creek's defense and their five sacks. Ralston Valley's QB won't forget Ashton Shepardson anytime soon given Shepardson sacked him three times.
Meanwhile, Columbine put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Chatfield with points to spare, taking the game 35-16.
Josh Snyder was his usual excellent self, rushing for 180 yards and three touchdowns. Snyder hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games.
Their wins bumped Cherry Creek to 13-0 and Ralston Valley to 10-3.
Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Cherry Creek has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 218.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Columbine struggles in that department as they've been even better at 315.2 per game. It's looking like Saturday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches. Everything went Cherry Creek's way against Columbine in their previous meeting back in December of 2019 as Cherry Creek made off with a 35-10 win. Does Cherry Creek have another victory up their sleeve, or will Columbine turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
