MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Basketball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard

1. (No. 1 last week) Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), 31-0
The first half of Mater Dei's daunting postseason quest is in the books after beating Chino Hills 48-44 for the Southern Section Open Division title Saturday night. 2. (2) Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.), 25-0 *

Regular season complete. Expected to participate in Dick's Sporting Goods High School National Tournament in April.

3. (3) Rainier Beach (Seattle), 29-0
A late bucket by senior Dujaun Piper lifted the Vikings past Eastside Catholic (Sammamish) 47-45 on Saturday night in the Class 3A state championship game. It was Rainier Beach's third state title in a row and eighth since 1988. The Seattle powerhouse will be part of the field at Dick's National's.

Class 3A state champions. Eligible to participate in Dick's Nationals.

Regular season complete. Another Dick's Nationals candidate.

8. (8) Greater Atlanta Christian (Norcross, Ga.), 32-0

The Big Reds' quest for the Class A state title continues Monday against Northview (Grand Rapids). Muskegon hammered Grand Rapids Union on Friday 73-48 behind another monster triple-double from junior Deyonta Davis, who finished with 16 points, 16 blocked shots and 12 rebounds.{PAGEBREAK}

16. (20) Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.), 28-6
Already winners of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference tournament title and VISAA Division 1 state crown, the Panthers have their eyes on the prestigious Alhambra Catholic Invitational crown later this week. Joining Paul VI in Maryland for that event will be fellow WCAC powers Bishop O'Connell (Arlington, Va.), DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) and St. John's (Washington, D.C.), along with host Bishop Walsh (Cumberland, Md.), Benedictine (Richmond, Va.), Calvert Hall (Baltimore) and Mount St. Joseph (Baltimore).

17. (21) Our Savior New American (Centereach, N.Y.), 28-3
The Pioneers are 6-0 in tournament play over the past two weekends. OSNA would love a shot to play in Dick's Nationals but may be on the outside looking in barring organizers wanting a local presence in the event.

18. (23) Stevenson (Lincolnshire, Ill.), 28-1
All-American candidate Jalen Brunson went for 25 points as the Patriots cruised past Warren (Gurnee) 79-59 to advance in the Illinois Class 4A state playoffs. Stevenson will face St. Viator (Arlington Heights) on Tuesday in the sectional semifinals.

19. (NR) North Shore (Houston), 35-3
The newly-crowned Texas 5A state champions won 17 in a row to close the season. North Shore is ranked No. 3 nationally in the MaxPreps Computer Rankings thanks in part to wins over strong Lone Star State programs like Atascocita (Humble), DeSoto, Fort Bend Bush (Richmond), Judson (Converse) and Plano West. The Mustangs also beat arguably Oklahoma's top team in Putnam City West.

20. (NR) Orlando Christian Prep (Orlando, Fla.), 30-1
Season complete. Class 2A state champions. The Warriors beat five teams that played for a state title in Florida and went 5-1 against out-of-state competition. A signature win is lacking but OCP was a four-point loss away from a perfect season.{PAGEBREAK}

21. (NR) Garfield (Seattle), 27-1
The Bulldogs knocked off previously-unbeaten Richland for the Class 4A state title Saturday. MaxPreps Holiday Classic champ Jackson (Mill Creek) was knocked out of the proceedings in the first round by Issaquah, who Garfield beat in the semis. All-American candidate Tramaine Isabell spearheaded the program's 12th state crown by averaging 23.4 points per game and putting up 34 in the championship game. Fellow seniors Brayon Blake, Torrence Baker and DeeShawn Tucker along with sophomore Jashaun Agosto were also key pieces to the title run.

22. (NR) Callaway (Jackson, Miss.), 29-1
Malik Newman's squad is two wins away from its third state title in a row. The Chargers have won 20 in a row.

23. (NR) Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, Ohio), 23-1
Moeller meets Middletown on Wednesday in a regional semifinal matchup. Only three teams have topped the 50-point mark against the Crusaders this season.

24. (NR) Neumann-Goretti (Philadelphia), 23-4
Winners of 13 in a row, the Saints meet GAR Memorial (Wilkes-Barre) on Tuesday in the Pennsylvania Class AAA state playoffs.

25. (NR) Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, Ind.), 22-3
What a twist of fate it would be if this Royals squad – which beat No. 6 Arsenal Technical back on Feb. 1 and then-No. 16 Carmel over the weekend – broke through to win a state title. Hamilton Southeastern has featured Gary Harris (Michigan State) and Zak Irvin (Michigan) in recent years but couldn't get over the hump with them in the lineup.

Dropped out: No. 10 last week Apple Valley (Minn.); No. 11 White Station (Memphis, Tenn.); No. 16 Carmel (Ind.); No. 17 Lincoln (Brooklyn, N.Y.); No. 22 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.); No. 24 Judson (Converse, Texas); No. 25 Brookfield Central (Brookfield, Wis.)

* Record includes forfeit victory.
