Recap: Poly Parrots vs. North Hollywood Huskies

The Poly Parrots proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 50) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against North Hollywood and snuck past 52-50. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Poly has posted yet this season.

It was another big night for JD Wyatt, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Poly's points. Kevin Lara was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

North Hollywood's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caymen Smith, who scored ten points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayson Cooper, who scored 17 points.

The win makes it two in a row for Poly and bumps their season record up to 5-12. As for North Hollywood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Poly won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary at 1:00 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Friday. North Hollywood won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Verbum Dei Jesuit at 11:30 a.m. on January 13th. Verbum Dei Jesuit is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.3 points per game.
