Softball Game Preview: Shasta Wolves vs. Chico Panthers

Shasta hasn't had much luck against Chico recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wolves will welcome the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Shasta comes in on three and Chico on five.

Shasta's tournament run continued when they took on Red Bluff on Saturday. The Wolves walked away with an 8-3 win over the Spartans.

Callie Hemsted made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Hemsted was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anna Pe?a, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Cardin, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Shasta lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

11 must be Chico's lucky number: they beat Los Molinos with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 11-3 victory. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Gioella Pennisi was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. Olivia Murphy was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Chico's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Shasta, their victory bumped their record up to 9-11.

Shasta suffered a grim 17-6 defeat to Chico in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
