Basketball Recap: Abigail Veturys' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Concord Christian Academy over Fairwinds Christian

Concord Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 31-25 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fairwinds Christian Knights. If the Minutemen were looking for revenge after losing 30-25 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Minutemen players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Abigail Veturys, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Veturys a new career-high in points. Aubrey Collison was another key player, putting up eight points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Concord Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Gabby Johnson was the offensive standout of the match as she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Fairwinds Christian's points.

Concord Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Fairwinds Christian, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 1-6.

Concord Christian Academy and Fairwinds Christian's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Concord Christian Academy and Greenwood Mennonite (who has only given up 29.17 points per game) will meet at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Fairwinds Christian will square off against Calvary Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, a squad that's only allowed 25.44 points per game.
