The Trenton Tigers will face off against the Dixie County Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Trenton has six straight victories, Dixie County has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Trenton lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Lafayette, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's game. Trenton's pitchers stepped up to hand Lafayette a 6-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Tigers have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Brant Bivens made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 5.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4.
Bivens wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ty Moses, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another was Mason VunCannon, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Trenton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lafayette only posted a batting average of .091.
Meanwhile, Dixie County came up short against Bell on Friday and fell 10-6.
Trenton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Dixie County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Dixie County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Trenton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .489. It's a different story for Dixie County, though, as they've only averaged .332. Will they be able to contain Trenton's hitters?
Everything went Trenton's way against Dixie County in their previous meeting last Tuesday, as Trenton made off with an 11-1 victory. Does Trenton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Dixie County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
