Softball Recap: Benicia Gets the Win

Benicia had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against the Escalon Cougars by a score of 8-3. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

Alyssa Haywood made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. Haywood was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

Haywood wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mady Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Escalon is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Benicia has already played their next contest, a 7-2 loss against Central Catholic on the 26th. As for Escalon, they will take on Calaveras at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
