Softball Recap: Peotone Comes Up Short

Peotone extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 12-11 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Beecher Bobcats. The Blue Devils were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bobcats from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Sophie Klawitter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

As for Beecher, they pushed their record up to 27-1 with the victory, which was their 29th straight on the road dating back to last season. Their pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.

On Beecher's side, Peotone's batters probably weren't too happy with Taylor Norkus, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 15 Ks (she gave up a single walk).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Olson, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Peotone will welcome Herscher at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Beecher, they will be playing at home against Providence Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
