Baseball Recap: Bishop O'connell Beats St. Stephen's & St. Agnes for Their Fifth Straight Win

While Bishop O'Connell's victory against St. Stephen's & St. Agnes wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bishop O'Connell Knights narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the St. Stephen's & St. Agnes Saints 2-1. The Knights' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Mark Zonavetch tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Bishop O'Connell's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Chaz Walker, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Chris Connolly also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Bishop O'Connell pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop O'Connell will host Yorktown at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop O'Connell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season. As for St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Moore Catholic at 4:00 p.m.
