Softball Recap: Torrington Wins Going Away Against Waterbury Career Academy

Torrington won the last time they faced Waterbury Career Academy and things went their way on Saturday too. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Spartans. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won seven games by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Sophia Pergola made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs.

In other batting news, Julia Rinaldi was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Lilah Boulli was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and one double.

Torrington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Torrington's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-10. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Waterbury Career Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.
