Softball Game Preview: Taft Toreadors vs. Marquez Gladiators

The Taft Toreadors will square off against the Marquez Gladiators at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Taft sitting on four straight victories and Marquez on three.

Taft is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over King/Drew. Considering the Toreadors have won six matches by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Alexandra Chase was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Katelyn Levine was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Meanwhile, Marquez posted their closest win since May 15, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Northridge Academy 6-4.

Taft's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-11. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Marquez, their victory bumped their record up to 24-2.
