Baseball Recap: Fairfield Central Comes Up Short

Fairfield Central had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-6 to make it ten. They fell just short of the Chester Cyclones by a score of 12-11. Even if the Griffins couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Bentley Trapp and M Jackson-Nellums stepped up to the plate in a big way. Trapp got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Jackson-Nellums went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. That double marked the first that Trapp has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Logan Watkins, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Chester, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-7-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games.

On Chester's side, Tucker Evans was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with four runs. The Cyclones are undefeated when Evans posts two or more runs, but 2-7-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Terrell Douglas, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Fairfield Central will face off against rival Columbia at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Chester is set to take on their familiar foe Clinton at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
