It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Voyager Academy had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Bertie Falcons with a sharp 12-1 win. Considering the Vikings have won 13 matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Cameron Copley was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.
In other batting news, Jacobi Purvis was a standout: he got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Marshall Hambrick, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
The victory was the eighth in a row for Voyager Academy, bringing their record up to 21-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Bertie, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.
Voyager Academy has already played their next contest, a 10-0 victory against Cape Hatteras on the 9th. Bertie does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
