Basketball Recap: Thomas Spraggins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Manitou Springs over Salida

If Manitou Springs was riding high fresh off their 72-36 takedown of Woodland Park last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Manitou Springs Mustangs took a hard 62-44 fall against the Salida Spartans on Thursday. The Mustangs have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Thomas Spraggins, who posted eight points. Another player making a difference was Preston Rhodes, who scored nine points.

Manitou Springs' loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Salida, they pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Manitou Springs will welcome Lamar at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lamar is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.7 points per game this season. As for Salida, they will head out on the road to challenge St. Mary's at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. St. Mary's also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 62.1 points per game.
