Basketball Game Preview: Cross Keys Phoenix vs. Academe of the Oaks Firebirds

The Cross Keys Phoenix are taking a road trip to take on the Academe of the Oaks Firebirds at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Cross Keys has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since November 11.

Cross Keys' last matchup with Fulton Science Academy could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Friday. The Phoenix were outmatched by the Mustangs and fell 71-32.

Meanwhile, Academe of the Oaks was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 57-52 to Lighthouse Christian.

Cross Keys will have to contain Judah Huckaby as he made an impact in Academe of the Oaks' last game. He shot 41% from the field on his way to 26 points along with four steals and three blocks. The game was Huckaby's fourth in a row with at least 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Campos, who posted six points in addition to ten boards and four blocks.

Cross Keys' loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Academe of the Oaks, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Everything went Cross Keys' way against Academe of the Oaks when the teams last played back in November, as Cross Keys made off with a 55-33 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Phoenix since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
