Baseball Preview: Caesar Rodney Riders vs. William Penn Colonials
Caesar Rodney hasn't had much luck against William Penn recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Riders are taking a road trip to face off against the Colonials at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Caesar Rodney is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Dover, who was ranked 18th at the time (Caesar Rodney was ranked third). The Riders' pitchers stepped up to hand the Senators an 8-0 shutout on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Riders sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Meanwhile, William Penn made easy work of Christiana on Saturday and carried off a 15-2 win. The Colonials haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Ryan Harms made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. William Penn is undefeated when Harms posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, William Penn got a big performance out of Michael Baker, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Jaedin Maichle also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
