Baseball Recap: International Takes a Loss

International extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-9 in the process. They fell 10-5 to the Gateway Gators. The Jaguars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Gators apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Gateway, they moved to 2-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

For Gateway's part, Luca Velasquez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave Velasquez a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Casey Volker, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Henry Boyle was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

While International had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
