Basketball Recap: Calexico Takes a Loss

Calexico was the 47-46 winner over Central when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Calexico Bulldogs fell 56-47 to the Central Spartans on Wednesday.

Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joap Soto Chavez led the charge by going 8-for-11 to rack up 17 points and six boards. What's more, Soto Chavez also posted a 73% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Daimaggio Wyatt, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Calexico has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 16-9 record this season. As for Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-10.

Calexico does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Imperial at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Central knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Imperial likes a good challenge.
