Football Game Preview: Gateway Gators vs. Woodland Hills Wolverines

The Gateway Gators will challenge the Woodland Hills Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gateway has given up an average of 32.3 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Things were looking good for Gateway after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 33-23 hit to the loss column at the hands of Penn-Trafford. The Gators were up 23-7 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Despite the loss, Gateway saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mayson Mitchell threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns. The Gators are 2-1 when Mitchell posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 0-4 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Woodland Hills came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They took their game with ease, bagging a 50-14 victory over the River Hawks. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the River Hawks are ranked 202nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Woodland Hills' win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Gateway, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

Gateway and Woodland Hills were almost perfectly matched up when the teams last played back in October of 2024, but Gateway suffered an agonizing 28-27 defeat.
