Basketball Recap: Gary West Side Takes a Loss

Gary West Side fought the good fight in their overtime match against Portage on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 39-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Portage Indians. The Cougars' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Portage's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kylie Byrd, who posted eight points in addition to nine rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Abby Nelson, who scored six points and six boards.

Gary West Side's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Portage, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-11.

Gary West Side has already played their next contest (against Whiting), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Portage is taking a road trip to square off against Kankakee Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Portage has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
