Basketball Recap: Harlandale Falls Despite Big Games from Sadie Mancha and Julia Barajas

While it was all tied up 25-25 at halftime, Harlandale was not quite Southside's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Southside Cardinals by a score of 48-45. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 679th, while the Cardinals are ranked 201st).

Julia Barajas and Sadie Mancha certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Barajas went 6 of 15 on her way to 15 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, while Mancha went 6 for 11 on her way to 15 points and five rebounds. Barajas is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Miyah Petersen, who posted six points and five rebounds.

It was another big night for Gabryela Galvan, who went 10 of 21 on her way to 23 points for Southside. Galvan continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was McKayla Flores, who put up eight points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Harlandale is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-13. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.5 points per game. As for Southside, their victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-5.

Harlandale wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 56-35 win against South San Antonio on the 3rd. As for Southside, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-23 victory against Winn on the 3rd.
