Softball Recap: Fayetteville Wins Going Away Against Springdale

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Fayetteville and Springdale have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. Fayetteville was the clear victor by a 9-1 margin over Springdale. Fayetteville not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 7th (when they won 15-0).

Nevaeh Sasnette spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Garcia, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Elisabeth Hampton, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Fayetteville's victory bumped their record up to 15-9-2. As for Springdale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Fayetteville will venture away from home to challenge Rogers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mountaineers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Springdale, they will challenge Rogers Heritage at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The War Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
