Basketball Recap: East Chapel Hill Takes a Loss

East Chapel Hill played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 58-21 loss at the hands of the Broughton Capitals. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 466th, while the Capitals are ranked 216th).

Despite the defeat, East Chapel Hill saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alana Burroughs went 6 of 11 on her way to 14 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Burroughs has scored all season.

Broughton found their leader in sophomore Jamiyah Allen, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 boards. Those 18 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Allen. Jane Kern was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

East Chapel Hill has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season. As for Broughton, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season.

East Chapel Hill has already played their next match (against Northern Durham), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Broughton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-36 loss against Leesville Road on the 14th.
