Football Recap: Steele Canyon Triumphs + How To Watch

With a playoff win on the line, Steele Canyon rose to the challenge on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Helix Highlanders 22-19. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Highlanders on their field since October 26, 2018.

Gavin Caha was the offensive standout of the matchup as he threw for 231 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in rushing yards (21).

Steele Canyon didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Helix to a completion percentage of just 50%. The Cougars weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 61.9%.

Helix's loss came despite strong showings from Jacob Andrew-Johnson and Lee Norman-Lester. Andrew-Johnson picked up 76 receiving yards and two scores, while Norman-Lester threw for 151 yards and a pair of TDs. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Jordan Lindley, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

The victory snapped Steele Canyon's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-3 record. As for Helix, their record now sits at 4-8.

Looking ahead, Steele Canyon will square off against San Diego at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cavers' defense has only allowed 14.8 points per game this season, so the Cougars' offense will have their work cut out for them. Helix does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
