Everett Alvarez is 1-9 against Hollister since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Haybalers at 4:30 p.m. Everett Alvarez will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Everett Alvarez gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 7-4 win over North Salinas.
Dani Amendola spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lizbeth Ramirez was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Contreras, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Hollister ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Palma 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Haybalers have posted since April 5th.
Hollister also let their pitcher toss all nine innings and she was also dialed-in: Eliana Hatchett gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Hatchett.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aleah Ruiz, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. Grace Peffley was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Everett Alvarez pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hollister, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-6-1.
Hollister's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Everett Alvarez has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Hollister, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Everett Alvarez keep running through batters, or will the Haybalers buck the trend?
Everett Alvarez couldn't quite finish off Hollister in their previous matchup on April 2nd and fell 4-2. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
