Football Recap: Palatka Takes a Loss

Palatka extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-5. They fell 21-13 to Newberry. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Palatka of the 24-7 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2024.

As for Newberry, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.0 points over those games.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Kaleb Woods and Jamarcus Wimberly. Woods rushed for 117 yards and two TDs while Wimberly rushed for 70 yards on only nine carries. That's the most rushing yards Woods has posted since back in October of 2024.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Palatka is set to square off against their familiar foe Bradford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Newberry will take on rival Santa Fe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
