Basketball Game Preview: Waupaca Comets vs. Oconto Falls Panthers

The Waupaca Comets will challenge the Oconto Falls Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Oconto Falls took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Waupaca, who comes in off a win.

Waupaca will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Freedom, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Comets walked away with a 51-42 victory over the Irish on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Oconto Falls was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 41-38 heartbreaker at the hands of Little Chute. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 127th).

Waupaca has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points over those games. As for Oconto Falls, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

Everything came up roses for Waupaca against Oconto Falls in their previous meeting back in December of 2025, as the squad secured a 59-23 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
