Baseball Recap: Cherryvale Victorious

Cherryvale lost to Caney Valley on Tuesday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Chargers won by a run and slipped past the Bullpups 5-4.

Braxton Whittley made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Whittley was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Luke Elliot was excellent, scoring a run and stealing four bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Ethan Umbarger was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Cherryvale's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Caney Valley, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 5-3-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cherryvale will host Parsons at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Caney Valley, they will take on Independence on Thursday.
