Softball Game Preview: Lakeland Lakers vs. Fremont Eagles

The Lakeland Lakers will face off against the Fremont Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

On Saturday, Lakeland came up short against Concord and fell 8-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Lakers in their meetings with the Minutemen: they've now lost five in a row.

Rylee Amsden led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Reahgan Adams was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Fremont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Garrett, falling 17-2.

Emma Creager made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.

Lakeland's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Fremont, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lakeland has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fremont struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Lakeland was able to grind out a solid victory over Fremont when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 9-5. Will the Lakers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
