Softball Game Preview: Grenada Chargers vs. Olive Branch Conquistadors

The Grenada Chargers are taking a road trip to challenge the Olive Branch Conquistadors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grenada is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Grenada didn't have quite enough to beat Long Beach and fell 3-2.

Mary Taylour Wilbourn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Grenada saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lillian Mattox, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Olive Branch was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 20-7 to Center Hill.

Alissa Jenkins made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 1-for-2. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

Grenada's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Olive Branch, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Olive Branch's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Grenada has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Olive Branch, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will Grenada keep running through batters, or will Olive Branch buck the trend?

Grenada was able to grind out a solid win over Olive Branch in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. Does Grenada have another victory up their sleeve, or will Olive Branch turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
