Soccer Game Preview: Rancho Buena Vista vs. Oceanside

Rancho Buena Vista and Oceanside are an even 4-4-2 against one another since February of 2017, but likely not for long. The Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns will square off against the Oceanside Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Rancho Buena Vista sitting on three straight wins and Oceanside on five.

Rancho Buena Vista's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They won by a goal and slipped past La Costa Canyon 1-0. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 57th, while the Mavericks are ranked 253rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rancho Buena Vista's one-goal win came courtesy of James Greaney, who's now up to six this season.

Meanwhile, Oceanside beat Carlsbad 2-0 on Wednesday. Give the Pirates' defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Oceanside's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-0-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 18 goals over those four contests. As for Rancho Buena Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3-2 record this season.

Rancho Buena Vista came out on top in a nail-biter against Oceanside when the teams last played back in December of 2022, sneaking past 1-0. Does Rancho Buena Vista have another victory up their sleeve, or will Oceanside turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
