Recap: Sulligent Blue Devils vs. Tuscaloosa Academy Knights

After flying high against Pickens County last Wednesday, Sulligent came back down to earth. The Sulligent Blue Devils wound up on the wrong side of a rough 8-1 walloping at the hands of the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Sulligent of the 15-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February.

Hunter Wood was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases.

On Tuscaloosa Academy's side, Spencer Stephens tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and only one hit over five innings pitched. Stephens has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive pitching appearances. Aiden Kelley relieved him and did a solid job, pitching an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits (he also didn't allow any walks).

On the hitting side, Harwood Beeker was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Mills Turnipseed was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

As for Tuscaloosa Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Lamar County at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
