Volleyball Recap: Illiana Christian Find Success

Illiana Christian had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the New Prairie Cougars. That's more bragging rights for the Vikings, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Josie Balkema paced Illiana Christian's offense, picking up eight kills. Balkema got some help from Isabella Borrero and her 13 assists.

Despite the loss, New Prairie saw an underclassman step up: freshman Karigan Mamazza had 22 assists and five digs.

Coincidentally, Illiana Christian and New Prairie will both be playing Perry Meridian the next time they take the court. The Vikings will head out to face the Falcons at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Cougars will play them later in the day, at 11:00 a.m.
