Basketball Game Preview: Banquete Bulldogs vs. Falfurrias Fightin' Jerseys

The Banquete Bulldogs will venture away from home to square off against the Falfurrias Fightin' Jerseys at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Banquete is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Banquete is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Bishop on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Banquete was beaten by Bishop 91-34. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1605th, while the Badgers are ranked 720th).

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Falfurrias over Hebbronville in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Falfurrias blew Hebbronville out of the water with a 60-28 final score. The Fightin' Jerseys have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 23 points or more this season.

Banquete better keep an eye on Quisto Sanchez. He was instrumental in Falfurrias' win, dropping a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. What's more, Sanchez also racked up seven assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Cantu, who went 7 for 16 en route to 16 points.

Banquete's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Falfurrias, their win bumped their record up to 18-12.

Banquete barely slipped by Falfurrias in their previous matchup back in January, winning 60-59. The rematch might be a little tougher for Banquete since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
