Oak Harbor hasn't had much luck against Lakewood recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Oak Harbor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Oak Harbor lost 12-6 to Lynden Christian on Saturday. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Haylee Burleigh made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Mia Regan, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Lakewood duked it out with Burlington-Edison on Thursday. The Cougars fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 6-5. The Cougars have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Katie Krueger put in work no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Krueger wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Karly Stewart, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Emma Tocco was another, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with two runs.
Oak Harbor's record is now 10-6. As for Lakewood, their record now sits at 4-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Oak Harbor has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lakewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Oak Harbor might still be hurting after the 12-6 defeat they got from Lakewood in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
