Softball Recap: Mineral Ridge Has No Trouble Against Grand Valley

Mineral Ridge had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Grand Valley on Wednesday. The Rams were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Mustangs. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by seven runs or more this season.

Lily Merolillo spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Savannah Turek was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Sullivan Sandy was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Mineral Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grand Valley only posted an OBP of .333.

Mineral Ridge has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6-1 record this season. As for Grand Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-10.

Mineral Ridge will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mustangs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
