Baseball Recap: Lutheran Comes Up Short

Lutheran extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-15 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the St. Francis Borgia Knights. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cougars have suffered since March 25th.

As for St. Francis Borgia, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For St. Francis Borgia's part, they saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Koirtyohann, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave Koirtyohann a new career-high. Will Weber also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Looking ahead, Lutheran will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Dominic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Crusaders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Francis Borgia, they will venture away from home to take on Duchesne at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
