Softball Recap: Rocky River's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Rocky River dropped their record down to 10-6 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 11-6 to the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs. The Pirates were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in April of 2022.

Maddie Sollars led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Maggie Heigle, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Olmsted Falls, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.

On Olmsted Falls' side, ASHLEY SCOTT made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. SCOTT has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, SYDNEY BUSSER was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. BROOKE LARGENT was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Looking ahead, Rocky River will take on Westlake at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Olmsted Falls, they will venture away from home to take on Magnificat at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Blue Streaks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.1 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
